At the Norton, the arrival of October signals the approach of a new season. The first special exhibition of 2013-2014 is A Masterpiece Rediscovered: Claude-Joseph Vernet’s “The Fishermen,” which opens on Oct. 10 and focuses on the recent gift of a spectacular 267-year-old painting by the leading 18th-century French painter in Rome. Before then, please visit the dramatically reinstalled American Collection galleries, and take time to closely examine faux real, the new lobby mural by Mickalene Thomas. These are two of the major changes made while the Museum was closed during the first half of September. The Art After Dark series – Where Culture and Entertainment meet! – is back in full swing; details are below. And here’s great news: along with the Norton’s Free Saturday programs for Palm Beach County and West Palm residents, admission is half-price every Thursday all day for everyone (and, of course, free to members)!
