Held to honor Pedro Morrison who sat on the board of the YMCA of the Palm Beaches this event has become one of the biggest fundraisers of the equestrian season.

The Norton Museum of Art presents BIJOUX!, a contemporary art jewelry fundraiser, offering the public the chance to purchase one-of-a-kind contemporary art jewelry pieces directly from their creators. At least two dozen of the more than 40 international artists represented at BIJOUX! are expected to attend the event, which is open to the public during regular Museum hours (and with regular admission) March 1 � 4, 2012. BIJOUX! also includes a Feb. 28 dinner for patrons and artists at a private home, and a Feb. 29 preview cocktail party at the Museum. In addition, a discussion will be held at 3 p.m. on March 2 at the Museum with panelists Ela Bauer, Gloria Lieberman, Suzanne Ramljak, Davira Taragin and Donna Schneier as the moderator, and a workshop with Nirit Dekel is set for 11 a.m. on March 3rd. Limited seating available. Proceeds from BIJOUX! benefit the Norton�s exhibition and education programs.

Lucien Henry Capehart Jr. died today at Jupiter Medical Center of lung disease.

Born June 20, 1946, in Tennessee, he was the son of Lucien Henry Capehart Sr. and Evelyn Gibson Capehart.

Mr. Capehart came to Palm Beach in 1973.

The recently released Joint Operational Access Concept (JOAC) foreshadows an era of increased constraints on U.S. military actions abroad. The reality is that U.S. military power now competes on a substantially more complicated playing field in a number of important regions around the world. As a consequence, U.S. policymakers and military commanders should anticipate novel obstacles to global access emerging from some combination of improved adversary military capabilities and new, less favorable political realities. In short, the comprehensive anti-access/area denial (A2/AD) challenge is rapidly compounding, necessitating innovative U.S. military responses to overcome it.

Without leaving Tehran, Iranian president Mahmoud Ahmadinejad�s upcoming tour of Venezuela, Nicaragua, Cuba, and Ecuador has already been successful at feeding fears of a minor Persian invasion. This will make a half-dozen trips he has made to the region since he was initially elected in 2005. (George W. Bush made eight during his two terms.) Some concerns expressed by Washington observers and decisionmakers are exaggerated. However, some are real, and a look at the record shows that Iran has definite objectives in courting countries in the Americas neighborhood.

The Emperor�s Orders: Designs from the Qianlong Imperial Workshop (1736 -1796)

This exhibition features 10 objects in various media�painting, jade, ceramic, glass, and metalwork�all created for the greatest art collector in 18th century China, the Qianlong Emperor. Works from the Norton Museum�s own collection are featured and accompanied by important loans representing superlative examples of works produced in or from designs provided by the Imperial Palace Workshop. Being extremely inquisitive, this emperor invited many foreign artists to work at his court, including Mughal jade carvers, and Jesuit priest painters and glassmakers.

Local presentation of this exhibition is made possible in part through the generosity of the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Arts Council, and the National Endowment for the Arts.

The paintings of the human figure by British artist Jenny Saville (b.1970) have been infrequently exhibited since first premiered in the late 1990s. Included in the 1997 exhibition of the collection of British marketing giant Charles Saatchi entitled Sensation, she did not earn the notoriety of her slightly older peers, �the young British artists� for unusual materials. Instead, Saville masterfully painted with oil on canvas and concentrated on the human figure but still created provocative work. Her monumental compositions of the female form were unromantic and suggested the reality of weight, flesh and blood. Initially restricted to a feminist critique Saville�s skill and compositions have evolved. She continues to paint luscious canvases that reveal that her subject has always been the medium of painting itself. Taking on the challenge of the history of modern painting through the tradition of classical figure painting her contribution is the subject of this exhibition.

This selective exhibition of 25 canvases and drawings dating from 1999 � 2011 will bring Saville�s mature work together for the first time. Included will be such recognizable works as Fulcrum (1999) and Reverse (2002-3) as well as examples showcasing Saville�s exceptional draughtsmanship in key works from the recent series Reproduction drawing (after the Leonardo cartoon),(2009-10) which references the iconic image found in the collection of London�s National Gallery. Works from the artist�s studio which have not been previously exhibited also will be included.

The exhibition will be accompanied by a fully-illustrated publication.

Jenny Saville, is the first exhibition in the Norton�s RAW series --- Recognition of Art by Women, made possible by the Leonard and Sophie Davis Fund/MLDauray Arts Initiative.

A self-taught Chef, Cassady Pappas started at the young age of 13 at his uncle's restaurant in Bucksport, Maine. After a four year tour in the Marine Corps he returned there but found frying the same old seafood to be a bit repetitive. Moving to Bar Harbor, he worked his way up quickly at the famous Bar Harbor Inn and became one of the Sous Chefs. After meeting up with restaurateur Michael Boland, Mr. Pappas and Mr. Boland went on to open Guinness and Porcelli�s in Bangor. From there he moved back to MDI and began a long stint as the Executive Chef of a group of five restaurants: Havana, Rupununi, The Quarterdeck, Guinness & Porcelli�s (since re-opened in Bar Harbor) and Miguel�s, and co-owned the latter three. In 2009 he moved to Portland to open Havana South with Michael Boland.

President Hamid Karzai visited India this week and signed a wide-ranging strategic partnership agreement with India. His visit comes shortly after the assassination of prominent Afghan leader Burhanuddin Rabbani who was the head of the Afghan High Peace Council. Earlier this week, Karzai outlined a new approach on peace efforts to the Afghan people with a shift toward talking to Pakistan instead of reconciliation efforts with the Taliban by saying, �We are involved with the governments and not the forces that depend on them, that is why we should talk to the governments who make the decisions.� Against this backdrop, Karzai�s visit to New Delhi and the signing of the strategic partnership agreement represent the initial moves of geostrategic posturing by regional actors as the United States prepares to withdraw its troops from Afghanistan by 2014.

There are no concrete statistics on how many have been trafficked in Palm Beach County;
however, the United Nations estimates that 700,000 to 4 million women and children are
trafficked around the world for purposes of forced prostitution, labor and other forms of
exploitation every year. Trafficking is estimated to be a $7 billion dollar annual business.
Victims of trafficking are subject to gross human rights violations including rape, torture,
forced abortions, starvation and threats of torturing or murdering family members. Florida has the characteristics that attract and promote an environment for human trafficking: migrants, agriculture, location, transient traffic.
