For the other half of our summer vacation on Nantucket, we had the pleasure of staying at The Nantucket Hotel & Resort. Last year we spotted the family-friendly hotel near the home we rented and were intrigued by this charming and historic property, complete with an antique red firetruck and green bus parked out front. We thought it looked like a gem, so this year we stayed there and our family loved it… and we know yours will love it, too!

The luxurious yet relaxed year-round property first opened its doors back in the summer of 1891. Since then, it has done a fantastic job capturing the spirit of Nantucket. The charm and elegance of the old days abound here, and we especially loved hearing all about the history from their delightful general manager, Jamie. But don’t let the hotel’s age fool you. The recently restored, in-town property offers all of the modern and stylish amenities with a variety of accommodation options that make it perfect for both couples and families. Their guests can choose from hotel rooms, one, two, three and four bedroom suites, and 1 & 2 bedroom private cottages with amenities like living rooms, kitchenettes and luxe linens!

At the top of our list was going for a ride in their antique red firetruck. It’s just as cool as can be and guests can hop on for a quick spin around town. We requested a ride from the hotel to Brant Point Lighthouse, a cute lighthouse located in town, and had a blast waving back to everyone walking and waving to us along the streets. Guests can also pre-reserve their antique green bus for pick-ups and drop-offs to/from the ferries located at the wharf!

After our spin in the firetruck, we came back to the hotel for their Old-Fashioned New England Clambake. This family-friendly dinner located in their Breeze restaurant is what classic Nantucket dinner dreams are made of. The indoor/outdoor terrace is transformed with red and white checkered tablecloths, fun flags hanging overhead and lobster bibs that perfectly compliment their spread of clam chowder, lobsters, mussels, littleneck clams, cornbread, corn on the cob, watermelon, strawberry shortcake dessert, and lots more. The open air seating, live music, guest lobster appearance, and delicious feast is spectacular!

We ended this dreamy Nantucket afternoon by making complimentary s’mores on their deck that overlooks the pool. Each of our kids got to roast their own marshmallows over the fire pits and then make sandwiches with chocolate and graham crackers for a yummy dessert. This fun kids’ activity is offered every night through August from 6 pm to 7:50 pm, so be sure to sign up if you’re staying at the hotel!

There are so many other fun things to do, from swimming in their heated pools to working out in their 4500 sq ft Nantucket Club & Spa to the complimentary Kids’ Club program. And it’s not too late to book your summer trip because their end of summer rates are not to be missed!
